Pella Tulip Festival
May 6 - 8, 2010
3-day tour
Join us as we travel to Pella, Iowa, for the Pella Tulip
Festival to experience a touch of Holland. Whatever your idea of a vacation is, you'll
experience it in Pella. Immerse yourself in the old-world charm of the Netherlands as you stroll
along brick streets visiting the Dutch storybook storefronts, the Molengracht canal, and the
authentic 1850's working windmill. Don't miss the boyhood home of Wyatt Earp in the Pella
Historical Village. And this is just the beginning of your experience! Shop in the exquisite
stores filled with imported goods made from old-family recipes and bask in the sensational smells
of our bakeries and meat markets, or take a leisurely walk through the award-winning attractions.
Day 1 - Thursday, May 6, 2010:
We'll begin our journey, stopping in for noon lunch (Dutch treat), and then in Dubuque, IA, where
we'll visit the National Mississippi River Museum &
Aquarium, voted the #1 attraction of the year in Iowa! Six large aquariums and many
exhibits feature giant catfish, turtles, otters, ducks, frogs, reptiles, and the history of
America's most famous river. Interactive exhibits and Living History demonstrations bring this
exciting river-front campus to life. In the evening we'll check into our hotel in Grinnell, IA,
for the next two nights - the Country Inn & Suites.
Day 2 - Friday, May 7, 2010:
Breakfast is included at the hotel. In the morning, a step-on guide will join us for a tour of the
Historical Village and Vermeer Windmill. The Vermeer Mill, an authentic working Dutch Mill,
includes parts built in Holland and assembled in Pella by skilled Dutch craftsmen. The Vermeer
Mill grinds wheat into flour using only wind power and is the tallest working windmill in the
United States. The historic village also includes flower gardens, a miniature village, the Wyatt
Earp House, the Scholte House, and more!
At noon we'll visit the Trinity Reformed
Church for noon lunch (included). Following lunch we have reserved tickets for the parade
at the tulip festival. Later, you are free to roam the grounds and soak in the rest of the fun!
Day 3 - Saturday, May 8, 2010:
Breakfast is included at the hotel. In the morning we'll travel to Amana, IA, where a step-on
guide will join us for a tour of the Amana Colonies, a
landmark on the Iowa prairie for over 150 years with a rich history. This area has remained
faithful to a communal culture with preserved historical buildings, active church, and a tradition
of quality products. The buildings date back to the mid 1850s and are made of local materials like
wood, sandstone, brick, and limestone.
Following the tour we'll visit the Ox Yoke Inn for noon
luncheon (included). Then we'll journey home with fond memories of our historic and beautiful trip.
